Miyan Tansen from Emperor Akbar’s court is one of the Navaratnas, the nine jewels, and was considered to be the finest musician in the whole of India. He was called Tansen and he has been one of the main reasons in establishing many different genres of North Indian Classical Music back then known as Hindustani Music at present.
Hailing from the Maihar Gharana – School of Music, his skill for Indian Classical Music was extraordinary. He has composed numerous compositions which led him to have many admirers around the world and he also mastered the art of Sarod playing. He was mentored and trained under the tutelage of Allauddin Khan, his father who was well-known for composing many ragas and also scores for films. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan set up a school for music in Calcutta in 1956 followed by Ali Akbar College of Music in 1967.
Shri Hariprasad is one of the living legends of the Flute which is called the Bansuri, a North Indian Flute made out of bamboo. Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi, very lovingly known as M. S. Subbulakshmi, M. S, M. S. S or Maami, was a true legend to all musicians in Carnatic Music.
